The Cathedral & John Connon School was founded in 1860 by the Bombay Diocesan Society and the Bombay Scottish Education Society. It today ranks among the premier schools in India and is a member of the Headmasters’ Conference, U.K.
Located in the heart of Bombay, it is a co-educational day school. Students from the ages of 5 - 17 make up the 1600 students of this school.
The School prepares students for the national Board Examinations at the end of the 10th standard (age group 15+) called the I.C.S.E. -- Indian Certificate of Secondary Education -- and at the end of the 12th standard (age group 17+) called the I.S.C. - Indian School Certificate.
The School is divided into four sections -- Senior School comprising of standards 8th to 12th; Middle School comprising of standards 5th to 7th; Junior School comprising of standards 3rd and 4th and the Infant School comprising of Transition to 2nd standard.
The School lays great emphasis on giving an all-round education. It is equipped with the latest science laboratories, computer laboratories, art rooms and has an outstanding library. Extra curricular activities cover a wide range from chess to the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. Games range from squash, badminton, tennis, swimming to cricket, rugby, hockey, etc.. Elocution, choir, dramatics and debates are an integral part of the curriculum. Students publish their own bulletin called The Cathedral News.
The school thrives on its century-old House System. There are four houses in the School - Barham, Palmer, Savage and Wilson -- named after the founders of the School. Each student has to belong to one of the houses which is headed by a Housemaster/Housemistress from the teaching faculty. House Captains are selected in the 12th standard to lead each of the houses. Inter-House rivalry in academics, games and extra-curricular activities leads to a competitive atmosphere and esprit de corps.
Over the years, the School has had an outstanding record at the Board Examinations and the majority of the students are selected at prestigious U.S. Universities. Some proceed for 'A’ Levels to the U.K. and other join leading institutions like I.I.T. in India.
The school is run by the Board of Governors of the Anglo Scottish Education Society and is supported by a highly able and competent staff and teaching faculty.
