The Borderer, December 1957 (The School Magazine)
IN MEMORIAM.
The eighteenth of April 1957 heralded the last day of School and naturally the joy of holidays. but before the day was half spent the joy turned to calamity and sorrow, for one who had been a part of us for ten years was now no more. Kirti Doongursee had met with an accident and had died. We had, that day, lost a dear friend, whose loss no words can express. He who had never hurt any being intentionally and was loved by all that knew him was snatched from amongst us even before he had started life. His very presence radiated fun and gladness and was often the object of mockery and teasing; he who had won his way into the hearts of all by his peculiar manner and ways, had left us.
As if to make the blow harder, he was the captain of our cricket team; and what a captain! Only those who had served under him know his genial and easy-going nature. It had put him in a different light, one to be respected, to be obeyed and above all loved. A smile comes to one's lips when we think of the days spent together with him, his "quarrelsome" nature especially towards one boy and the constant "conflict" between the two; the ''grimace" on his face as he spun the ball, when bowling; the polite smile on his lips when he was introduced to someone and his laughter that echoes now in one's ears at recollection. All this never again! There can never be another to take his place; he has as it were, carved a permanent niche in our hearts. He came; he has gone; but his memory will always be with us.
